How to Stay Cool This Summer - Postures You Can Do

As the seasons come and go our bodies naturally adjust to the changes in the weather, the amount of daylight, the activities we do and the foods we eat.

Specific yoga postures can help us to acclimatize to seasonal changes by creating

the opposite environment inside our body. Postures that are calming and cooling help the body to balance out the heat and energy of the summer season for example.

Below are some cooling & calming postures you can try, to stay cool. There is also a cooling breath that you can practice called Single-Nostril Breathing.

Instructions: This technique isolates one nostril. For the summer months we are targeting the left nostril, which is called the Ida Nadi (“subtle channel”), which is the body’s cooling channel and is located on the lunar side of the body. Plug the right side of the nostril and breathe in and out through the left nostril for 5-20 breaths.
